Module Recap

In the final lecture of the module we review all of the ideas and debates across the module and some of the themes I believe are significant in the ways in which we have discussed digital geographies.

Firstly, we should return to the three-fold heuristic introduced by Ash, Leszczynski and Kitchin (2016) of:

Geographies:

…produced through the digital

…produced by the digital

…of the digital

Secondly, I showed the video ‘uninvited guests’ as a prompt for five key themes which I suggest have been important to how we have explored digital geographies.

The five key themes are:

  1. Space and Place / Mediation
  2. Embodiment
  3. Identity and difference
  4. Privacy and surveillance
  5. Work

I unpacked these in a number of different ways, both with reference to the video and more broadly in relation to the whole module.

Video Assessment support

As I have already outlined, there are a number of different ways I have supported and will continue to support your preparation of your videos.

The video assessment seminar/workshop is not being recorded because it involves exercises and discussion with students – it is not a lecture. Therefore I thought it wise to provide an overview of some of key things, which have been recorded in the ReCap recording of the final lecture. I used the example student videos to discuss some of these things as well, which you can find on this website.

ReCap recording

The lecture recording will be available on the module ELE page.
